While this new human union in Christ has not yet been fully realised all Christians have been given the Holy Spirit as a guarantee of their membership in Christ. Unity in Christ is an ever present reality that must be acted on. The glory of Christ is in restored unity, it is by his spirit he is all and in all. All who trust in him share in his spirit, so that by his spirit all Christians are transformed into his image.

But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.
(2 Corinthians 3:16-18 ESV)

Right Christian living stems from the reality of renewed unity in Christ through the Holy Spirit, by which all Christians share in his death and resurrection. This gives all Christians the freedom to operate under the rule of Christ (not separate from his rule), giving them access to God (love and life). Therefore Christians must act in light of a correct understanding of the reality of their union (relationship) in Christ otherwise.

But God has so composed the body, giving greater honor to the part that lacked it, that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another. If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together.
(1 Corinthians 12:24b-26 ESV)

Christians are united not only to Christ but one another also, meaning they are responsible for one another in Christ.

Biblical unity can never just be academic understanding but demands action, if you are indeed united to Christ by his spirit.
